Junot Diaz, Pulitzer Prize winning author, recently went on Late Night with Seth Meyers and spoke about his experience as a creative writing teacher at MIT.

Meyers asked if it was true that Diaz requires his students to watch Star Wars for class, and the author brilliantly explained why he does:

He's also surprised how few college students have actually seen any of the Star Wars films.
"I know the majority of them haven't seen it...the majority of kids have not watched any of this," Diaz said. "They're on Harry Potter — they grew up with that, they're like that's my shit. This stuff's for old people."

Diaz also talked about the importance of teaching diverse authors and stories to students.
"Part of that complexity is of course, questions of gender," Diaz continued. "If you don't want to deal and relate and think about what it means to be a woman on this planet, you're going to have serious problems. The same with dealing with the question of ethnicity and race."
